No Contract Details Scam
One real easy way to find out if a company may try and scam you out of your hard earned cash is the contact information they provide, or lack thereof. A decent host will always have an easy to reach contact page or email address. If not then consider going somewhere else, it’s just not worth the hours that will be spent later trying to contact the host.
The next thing you can do if you do find some contact details is to check them out. For one, make sure that the email addresses are indeed real and that the phone numbers and locations of the host exist. If you live near the host you might want to go down and check out the premises, but it’s probably much easier ringing the company up.
While on the phone you’ll want to check out their telephone manner as well as how they deal with you as a customer. In the same way contact the company through their email address, as not all hosts have phone lines, or if they do it can be quite expensive to ring them depending on where they are geographically.
During the phone/email conversation, pick up on how the host feels about answering your questions, even if you take up a bit of time. A quick tip is to make up some questions to ask, even if you don’t really need to. If the host doesn’t have time for you now, you can be sure he probably won’t have time for you later on when you’re a paying customer. Also, if sending an email is what you’re doing, then see how long the host takes to get back to your questions.
As always, you can never tell fully how good or bad a host is until you have tried them out. However, checking out the contact information of a company is a great way get a preliminary analysis. It won’t tell you everything there is to know about a host, but it will help.
